Indonesia is considering a building new airport in Karawang, West Java, The karawangnews  reported.
Surging demand and passenger numbers in the Greater Jakarta Area are forcing the government to consider constructing a new airport immediately, the newspaper said.
“We need a new commercial airport for the Greater Jakarta Area by 2019 because we have recorded such high passenger traffic, which means that we need to begin building the airport in 2014,” deputy transportation minister Bambang Susantono told the newspaper. “We want Jakarta to be like Tokyo, which has two commercial airports; Narita and Haneda, as well as other big cities around the world with multiple airports, such as Los Angeles and New York.”
